Gynecomastia Surgery In Pakistan

Gynecomastia or enlarged male boobs is one of the most common cosmetic problems in young males. Causes of Enlarged Breast/Gynecomastia

Grading of Gynecomastia

With time their size increases and along with that severity of the problem increases. According to size, it is divided into three main grades;

Grade-1: When there is mild enlargement of the breast without skin laxity

Grade-2A: When there is a moderate enlargement of the breast without skin laxity

Grade-2B: When there is a moderate increase in size with looseness of skin

Grade-3: When there is a severe enlargement of the breast with loose hanging skin

Patients can suffer from different grades and on both sides of the breast, their grades can be different depending upon the size of the breast and skin laxity.

Assessment and Preparation

Patient or client visit at Dr Abdul Malik Mujahid’s clinic and Dr Abdul Malik himself examines the patient in-depth after the detailed history. During the assessment, Dr Abdul Malik assesses the size of both breasts, the shape of both breasts, whether there is more gland tissue or fatty tissue, the position of nipples and areola, the asymmetry between both breasts, and chest and breast deformity. Then Dr Abdul Malik asks a client about his concern and guides him about the procedure, the timing of surgery, duration of surgery which can be around one to two hours, post-operative care, recovery, outcome and complications of the procedure. Dr Abdul Malik first does preoperative marking and then after paint and drapped to keep a sterile environment, do infiltration of solution through a small incision of about 0.5cm size. Then with special Cannulas liposuction is performed first in both breasts to remove fat. After that Dr Abdul Malik gives an incision around the areola to remove the breast gland, then dissection is done and breast tissue /gland is removed. The wound is washed and hemostasis is secured. Then the wound is closed and the dressing is done.

Post-operative Care and Recovery

After the procedure, the patient is shifted to the recovery room and Dr Abdul Malik visits the patient in the recovery room. The patient is either discharged on the same day if surgery is done under local anaesthesia or is kept admitted for one day of surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. The patient is advised pain killers and antibiotics for one week. The patient is advised to sleep straight and is advised to wear a compression garment for 4-6 weeks for the skin to retract so loose skin should not remain and good results can be achieved. Swelling and bruising can occur which is usually settled in a one to two week time period. The patient can feel altered sensation around the nipple for some time but that usually recovered in 3-4 weeks and good results are achieved around 2-3 months. The patient is advised bed rest for one to two days then he can start to walk at home, and 3-7 days can do routine work. The gym is avoided for 1-2 months so that good healing and recovery can be achieved.
