Types of Nose Reshaping Surgery/ Rhinoplasty

1. Non-surgical Rhinoplasty:

Also called liquid rhinoplasty and it is done as an office-based procedure with filler injection with minimal downtime

2. Surgical Rhinoplasty

Which includes

  • Augmentation rhinoplasty
  • Preservation rhinoplasty
  • Reduction rhinoplasty
  • Turkish delight procedure in which cartilage is broken down into small pieces and wrapped in surgical or fascia and placed inside the nose to augment the dorsum of the nose in case of flat nose close Approach Rhinoplasty Surgery.

Rhinoplasty surgery is usually performed under general anaesthesia and first of all, marking is done and then infiltration is injected. After that incision is given over the columella and the skin is lifted. Then with all things, in front of your eyes, again assessment is done about problems. After that problems are addressed one by one;

  1. Separation of cartilages
  2. Correction of hump
  3. Septoplasty or correction of the deviated septum
  4. Osteotomies are done in which the bony portion is broken in case of broad nasal bones to make a slim nose
  5. Tip work is done to make the tip lifted and Columellar struts are placed for support to tip
  6. Alar reduction is done in case of broad alas if needed

And in some cases, when the nose is fully flat, either the Turkish delight procedure is done or a cantilever procedure is done in which rib cartilage graft is placed to augment the dorsum of the nose.

Then hemostasis is secured and the wound closed. Then dressing is done and a splint is applied.

Post-operative Care & Recovery

After the rhinoplasty procedure patient is kept admitted for one to two days in the hospital. Nasal packing is done and the patient is advised to breathe through the mouth. Then the patient is advised to sleep straight and head-end elevated. Swelling and bruising below the eyes can occur which usually settle in one week time. After two days, nasal packing is removed and dressing over the nose is kept for one week. After 7 days stitches and dressing is removed.

Major swelling takes 2-3 weeks to settle and internal swelling/oedema is usually settled in 2-3 months. After dressing removed client is advised to do a gentle massage over the nose for symmetry and smooth shape.

Then Patient is advised not to press the nose or play games in which direct trauma to the nose can occur for 3 months. Good results are seen in about 3 months and minor changes continue to occur till 6 months after surgery.
